High Traffic Highway Construction - La Ronge, Canada

DSCN1328_med

Project Description: Terratech used T-PRO® 500 to stabilize a rural heavy traffic highway used for mining and transportation. The road had been previously stabilized with calcium chloride with limited success. Calcium chloride is highly water soluble and leaches from the soil during rain events. Calcium chloride is also caustic and toxic to plant life. T-PRO 500 was chosen for its high strength, non-leaching and environmentally friendly characteristics.

Project Objectives: In order to create a high strength road to sustain heavy over-size haul trucks, the road was treated with 0.75 percent polymer solution. An infused polymer application treated the top 4 inches (10 cm) of road surface. The primary objective of polymer stabilization was to improve the surface wear resistance through increase in shear strength. The secondary objective was to decrease moisture absorption and improve run-off in order to limit road softening and degradation.

Equipment Used: Milling Machine, Grader, Water Truck with Pressurized Spray Bar, Vibrating Pneumatic Roller.

Application Specifications: Infused application with polymer concentrations at 0.75%. All sections sealed with a topical seal coat at a coverage rate of 115 ft²/gal.

Maintenance Requirements: Removal of loose material from shoulder surface and topical re-application of polymer seal coat at a coverage rate of 110 ft²/gal.
